There’s quite possibly nothing more romantic than a Parisian pied-à-terre. But for those still waiting for the keys to their apartment in the 1e arrondissement, there’s Hotel Le Roch, which opened in July 2016. Meticulously decorated by interior design star Sarah Lavoine to resemble a private home, the space features 32 rooms and five suites, a restaurant, cocktail bar, spa, indoor pool, terrace, and garden.
Lavoine – who is known for her spirited use of color – mixes black, white and dark jewel tones with light pastel colors throughout the hotel, a theme that is echoed in the fact that boldly decorated rooms are filled soft natural light. Traces of her signature style, which also turn up in her design of the posh Victoria 1836 restaurant in the 16e Arrondissement, can also be seen in the delicate brass fixtures, Moroccan tiles, and Carrera marble counters.
As such, you might not want to venture far from your newfound home-away-from-home, and you won’t have to: the restaurant menu was developed by Michelin starred chef Arnaud Faye, formerly of the Auberge Jeu de Paume in Chantilly outside of Paris, who currently cooks at the Chèvre d’Or in Eze on the Cote d’Azur. Market fresh ingredients will appeal to visiting Americans, but the presentation is all French — expect to see foam and edible flowers. Drinks are standard international fare, but you can take your champagne cocktail, mojito, or pisco punch at the bar, outside on the terrace, or by the fireplace in the library.
Smartly set up in the middle of Paris’ first arrondissement, the five star hotel is tucked away on Rue Saint Roch, a prime location for shopping on Rue Saint-Honoré (make a beeline to Colette before it closes this year) or for making the cultural circuit: Walk to the Louvre, visit Monet’s Water Lilies at the Orangerie, or catch a photography exhibition at Jeu de Paume.
If you haven’t burned enough calories exploring the city, visit Le Roch’s wellness center, which features a gym and indoor pool. Or perhaps a massage or the hammam is more your speed; the spa features products from CODAGE.
Prices range from $350 for a “cosy room” (that’s European for small) to $1500 for an apartment suite.
