German illustrator Stefan Marx’s first memory of a plane is from a visit to the open observation deck at Frankfurt Airport with his family as a child. It was a Sunday, and he fell instantly in love. In the years since, the massive vehicles have come to serve as Marx’s muse, providing an avenue for him to explore what it means to leave something behind in search of something new. With Dashwood Books, he’s published One Sky Star World Team Alliance, a collection of drawings featuring airlines such as Air France, Delta, and his favorite, Lufthansa. “It’s classic German,” he says, “but I have a lot of very great memories with it.”
