Our Issue 6 cover photographer Bryan Anton took some stunning analogue shots of Coney Island between takes with cover star Phoebe Robinson. His playful photos show a softer side to the iconic amusement park—highlighting details you may have missed otherwise. He shares his thoughts with us below.
I was drawn to these bold, hand-painted signs. An imperfectly perfect piece of advertising.

Coney Island is a photographer's dream, full of so many varied colors and textures.

I was drawn to this ride visually as its structure is almost silhouetted by the bright blue sky behind it.

I love the vintage signage. Go on up to the Wonder Wheel!

The Wonder Wheel entrance, complete with Coney Island's requisite neon and bold colors.

As unusual as it is for NYC, the weather cooperated for the entire shoot. It wasn't until I got the final shot that the skies opened up with a downpour.

Coney Island has always been a strange place to me—exciting and weird at the same time. We found a mix of historical artifacts and old illustrations scattered throughout the fairgrounds in bold, primary colors with iconic and commercial symbolism.

Hot summer days bring an even brighter vibrance to the colors of the environment. I was glad I had my sunglasses with me.

I loved how the feeling of an era was captured in a hand painted sign.

Everyone's favorite childhood game. The nostalgia at the park was so real.

Sometimes the back sides of signs and structures are more interesting than the signs themselves. As a photographer, I've learned to investigate all sides of something in pursuit of the most interesting perspective.
