Domio Baronne Street is the perfect apartment-hotel (and Airbnb alternative) in New Orleans‘ popular Warehouse District.
Domio is the definition of a “home away from home” (and, after my stay, a home that I wish was my home). Created as a way to accommodate larger groups and keep friends and family together on trips, the concept is branded as an apartment-hotel—and it delivered.
At Domio, I genuinely felt at home. Like any other hotel, I checked in with a receptionist, wandered up an elevator and down a hallway, and key-carded my way into my room. But once inside, the impersonal feeling of more traditional hotels dissolved. I felt like I had entered my dream apartment—cozy couches, fully-equipped kitchens, and snazzy record players very much included.
There were, of course, the usual suspects—a pool, gym, and 24-hour concierge were all at my service—but this hotel-apartment changed the way I approach accommodations. And with locations scattered throughout the U.S., from New Orleans and Nashville to Chicago and beyond, it’s possible to make anywhere and everywhere feel like home.
Why it’s worth traveling for:
From the comfort food to the inspiring local community, New Orleans is a city bursting with soul. It’s a place where family—blood and chosen—means everything. In keeping with the NOLA way, Domio Baronne St. celebrates those same family values with their concept and design. It’s also walking distance from the popular French Quarter but far enough to get a quiet night’s rest—making it an ideal landing spot for those who truly want to make the city feel like home.
You’ll like it here if…
You like the comfort and security that a hotel offers, but the experience and environment that Airbnb provides. Domio is the best of both worlds, giving you reassurance while allowing you to get settled and kick your feet up like you’re back on the couch in your own city. It’s the kind of place ideal for intimate groups (think: families, engagement parties, friend trips).
Price breakdown:
Rooms start at $109 a night—surprisingly low considering how spacious the rooms are.
The crowd:
Families, groups of friends, and more families—in other words, people like you. Welcome to the neighborhood.
How to prepare:
Go buy groceries and bring a set of comfy clothes! After long, sunny days spent in the Louisiana heat or long, boozy nights spent out on the town, staying in for a home-cooked meal or lazing around in a bed that feels like your own may be just what the doctor ordered.
Pro-tip:
Mammoth Espresso is across the street. If you’re a coffee person—and, well, even if you’re not—thank me later.
While you’re in the area…
The French Quarter, of course! But not only that. Domio Baronne St. is smack dab in the heart of the historic Warehouse District, where you’ll find plenty of under-the-radar restaurants and bars. Go get lost in this quiet neighborhood—it’s definitely one where you might want to live if your stay at Domio ultimately convinces you to leave your former life behind for the beauty of the Big Easy.
